(I found this bit of info from their website.) Built in 1886 , The Driskill Hotel is consistently rated among the top most haunted hotels in the United States. The 189-room Driskill Hotel was built in 1886 as the showplace of cattle baron Jessie Driskill. One of the oldest historic buildings in the state, The Driskill stands as a landmark of Texas hospitality. Over the years, The Driskill has hosted inaugural balls for many Texas Governors and lavish events for international dignitaries. It was a favorite of President Lyndon Johnson who held many election night events at The Driskill and where he took the future Lady Bird Johnson on their first date.

Here are some of the stories connected to this hotel.

The Senator’s Daughter
The Driskill’s first sprightly spirit is the daughter of a Senator that was living at the Driskill when the Texas legislature was in session in the late 1800s. The spirit of a young child bouncing a ball haunts the first floor lobby, the ladies restroom and along the stairs leading to the mezzanine. In 1887, the daughter of a Senator fell to her death while chasing a ball down the grand staircase. Her death was the first at the hotel. Within a week she was back running around and playing. Her spirit is also the first recorded ghost at the Driskill. Today, guests still report her laughter and the sound of her ball bouncing down the staircase.

The Houston Bride
Although many supernatural guests date back to The Driskill’s early years, a bride from Houston first visited the hotel in the early 1990s as a guest. Her fiancé broke up with her so the Houston Bride stole his credit card, drove to Austin, checked into The Driskill and went shopping – on his dime. She was last seen walking to her room with arms full of shopping bags and was found dead two days later.
As the story goes, during the restoration of The Driskill in the 1990s, two women requested to stay in the historic wing. They received rooms in the traditional tower due to the renovations. After a night out on Sixth Street, the women returned to the hotel around 2 a.m. and became curious about the historic wing so they went to the fourth floor to explore. As they were wandering the floor, a woman with shopping bags got off of the elevator and walked to her
room. When asked if the renovations were bothering her, she replied, “no,” and proceeded to her room. The next day the women were upset that someone received a room in the historic wing when they were told they could not have a room in that area of the hotel. Upon questioning the front desk manager, he escorted the women to the fourth floor and the room the woman had entered. They opened the door to find an empty room filled with construction materials used for the renovation. There had not been a guest staying in that room the previous night.

The Party That Never Ends
Big band music and the sound of revelers has been reported in the lobby of The Driskill and on the property’s elevators. Many stories have been told of partygoers dressed in elaborate ball gowns and tuxedos walking off of elevators in the hotel – on nights when there haven’t been galas on the property.
Other ghosts simply show their presence by turning lights on and off, rearranging things in guest rooms and some guests have reported the feeling of someone brushing their hair in their sleep. The mischievous spirits that haunt the Driskill bring another kind of eternal life to the legendary hotel.
