People always ask me what kind of recorders we use to catch EVP's. My personal opinion, it does not matter what kind you use, digital or tape. They both have pros and cons. My first EVP that i recorded was captured on an old shoe box tape recorder. We still have it and use it from time to time. Now days, we rely on digital recorders with USB ports. This allows us quick acess to our audio files and instand download. Before investing in multiple recorders, try several out, borrown one if you can...
