Christmas Day programming can be tricky for many shows, but Martha Stewart has a secret weapon most chat hosts lack: prison art. Stewart’s Christmas Day show featured a segment wherein Stewart showed off a clay nativity scene that included baby Jesus, Joseph, Mary and three camels, all handcrafted while she was completed a five-month sentence at the Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia.
“Even though every inmate was only allowed to do one a month, and I was there for five months, I begged because I said I was an expert potter — ceramicist actually — and could I please make the entire nativity scene,” she said. Note to future inmates: Being an expert ceramicist clearly has some perks.
