When looking to buy either a 8mm or mini DVD video recorder always remember that you will probably be using it during the night so Night shot will be required. Not all brands of video recorders offer night vision. Sony is the only Night vision video recorder that I know of, that offers it. So if you are looking to buy a video recorder for ghost hunting, you might want to look into getting a Sony brand with night vision capabilities...
