Shaq Headed to Phoenix? |
|
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - The Miami Heat has informed center Shaquille O'Neal to be prepared for a trade, according to the Miami Herald.
The newspaper, citing two officials close to the situation, is reporting that the Heat have discussed sending O'Neal to Phoenix for forward Shawn Marion and point guard Marcus Banks.
Looking for confirmation from O'Neal's side, The Herald was told discussions with the Suns are serious and ongoing, but no deal is definite.
The Dallas Mavericks have also been mentioned as a possible landing spot for the 14-time All-Star but Miami had not immediately informed O'Neal of that possibility.
The 35-year-old O'Neal helped the Heat garner the 2005-06 NBA championship, but the team has struggled mightily since, losing in the first round of the playoffs in 2006-07 and compiling a league-worst 9-37 record this season.
O'Neal, who is currently out with a hip injury, has two years left on his contract after this season. He is set to be paid $20 million in each of the next two years.
The 6-foot-7 Marion, 29, is a four-time All-Star and is averaging 15.8 points and 9.9 rebounds this season.
Banks, 26, is averaging 5.2 points and 1.0 assists per game. After this season, he has three years left on his contract worth a total of $13.4 million.
